01 — The Problem

If you're a non-technical founder,
you've heard some version of this.

01

"$80K and six months for an MVP."

Most agencies quote you enterprise prices for startup work. You burn half your runway before you have a single user.

02

"Sure, we can build it."

Three months in, the scope doubles, the timeline slips, and you're paying to fix the foundation they got wrong.

03

"You'll own the code."

Technically true. Practically useless — it's undocumented, untested, and no other developer can pick it up.

We built InStep's MVP practice to fix all three.

02 — The Offer

Here's the deal.
Pay after launch.

We split the investment across three stages. The biggest chunk only leaves your account after your product is live and working.

0120%

Upfront — to start

Covers discovery, scoping, and design. If you're unhappy after the scoping sprint, we refund it and part ways. No hard feelings.

0230%

At milestones — as we build

Split across 2–3 milestones tied to working features you can see and test. Not status reports. Not Jira tickets.

0350%

After launch — when you're live

Paid only once your MVP is live, functional, and signed off. Monthly EMIs over 3–6 months if you need the runway.

"This works because we're confident we'll ship. If we weren't, we couldn't afford to offer it."

03 — What's Included

freelancer pretending to be one.

04 — Tech & Vendors

Built on tools your next CTO won't

05 — Timeline

What the 6–8 weeks
actually look like.

Week01

Discovery & Scope Lock

Product workshop, user story mapping, tech stack decisions, signed scope doc. This is where most agencies skip corners. We don't.

Week02

Design & Architecture

Clickable Figma prototype plus technical architecture diagram. You approve both before a single line of code is written.

One point of contact. One accountable owner. Everything flows through your PM — not a ticketing tool, not a CSM, not a rotating cast of freelancers. If something breaks down, you have a named Engineering Director above them whose job is to make it right.

09 — Fit Check

Be honest — is this right for you?

YesThis works well if you're…

  • A non-technical founder who's validated the idea with real users
  • Pre-seed, bootstrapped, or early-seed with $25K–$80K to invest
  • Looking to launch in weeks, not months
  • Willing to be hands-on in weekly reviews
  • Planning to raise or hit revenue within 6 months of launch

NoThis probably isn't right if you're…

  • Still exploring what to build (we can help, but you need a different service first)
  • An enterprise needing compliance-heavy, multi-year builds
  • Looking for the absolute cheapest option (we're competitive, not the cheapest)
  • Not available for weekly 1-hour reviews
10 — FAQ

The questions founders
actually ask us.

What if you miss the 8-week deadline?+
We include 30 days of post-launch fixes free. If the MVP slips past week 10 due to our execution, we absorb the overage — you don't pay extra hours. Scope changes from your side are handled transparently with a change-order doc.
Do I really own the code?+
Yes. GitHub repo transferred to you at handoff, fully documented, deployable by any other competent developer. We've been hired as the second agency on enough projects to know what bad handoffs look like — we do the opposite.
What stack do you build on?+
React or Next.js front-end, Node.js or Python back-end, Postgres or Mongo depending on the data model, AWS or GCP for infrastructure. We make the call in Week 1 and explain exactly why.
Do you do AI / LLM features?+
Yes — LangChain, OpenAI, Claude, local models, RAG pipelines, vector DBs. We scope it honestly, and we'll tell you when AI is the wrong answer (it often is).
What happens after launch?+
Optional retainer from Month 2 onward: $2K–$8K/month for ongoing feature work, bug fixes, scaling. No lock-in. Month-to-month.
Can I see a contract before I commit?+
Yes. Ask on the booking form and we'll send the scope doc and contract template before your discovery call.
What if I'm outside the US / UK / EU?+
We work globally — active clients across 15+ countries right now. We run overlap hours that work for your timezone, not ours.
11 — Let's Start

Two ways to start.
Both free.

No pitch deck. No hard sell. Pick the one that fits where you are right now.

Option A · Recommended

Book a 20-min scope call

We'll walk through your idea, stress-test the scope, and give you an honest "build / don't build / not yet" call. You leave with a scope doc whether we work together or not.

Option B · Self-serve

Get the MVP Scope Audit (PDF)
